Where is your health?
If there has ever been a time to put your health under a microscope, it would be now.
The Covid-19 virus has touched us all in some way, shape, or form. Whether you, yourself have had it, a loved one, or just an acquaintance, it hits everyone, young, old, healthy, and unhealthy. However, it does not hit as hard, if you are metabolically healthy.
Covid-19 should be a wake-up call and a motivator for all of us to eat better, exercise more, and make healthier life choices. We have all witnessed that those who are fit, active, and free of metabolic disease, such as type 2 diabetes, are faring better than those who are plagued with disorders that cause chronic inflammation.
What you can do today
The first thing you can do to improve your health today is to start eating whole foods. Vegetables, well-sourced protein, healthy fats, and plenty of water should be most of what you put in your mouth. Grains have a place in our diet, but sugar does not. We can have grains, fruit, and other starch, but in moderation. Everyone’s eating habits are different to some degree, but processed foods and sugars are not good for anyone!
What are some changes you can start making today? You could swap out your chips for carrots or a salad. Instead of fried chicken strips you could get grilled. You can skip the bun on your cheeseburger. You could eat eggs instead of toast and jam for breakfast. Do you get enough vitamins and minerals from the food you eat or do you need to supplement? This is a missing piece of the pie for many people and one they should discuss with their primary care physician. These small changes may seem insignificant in the moment, but over time you will reap the benefit.
What are you waiting for!?
Making changes in your health may not seem top priority to you now, but it should be. There is no better time to make changes to your health than today. Invest in your health now and it will pay off later. Because later is right around the corner. If the cost of getting healthy is not in your budget right now, it will not be in your budget later when you get those hospital bills.
Be ready for whatever comes at you, including Covid-19!
