A deload week is essentially a scheduled break from your typical training. It helps your muscles recover, while still maintaining some sort of physical exertion. The benefits of a deload week as whole allows your body to recover to prevent injury. To break it down it allows your central nervous system to rest as well as gives your joints and muscles enough time to recover so you can get back to high volume training. It also benefits the “mental recharge”.
Deloads can be broken down into 50% of your normal volume training or you can eliminate weight training all together. Every 6-12 weeks is a typical recommendation for incorporating a deload week into your training. This is essential for recovery and see growth within the gym!
