Soy is one of those things that you assume is fine to eat because it comes from a soybean, which is grown from the earth, therefore must be healthy. Wrong.
Soy is not good for you, in fact, soy can do a lot of damage to your body.
Soybeans contain chemicals called goitrogens and phytoestrogens, which can mess up your thyroid and sex hormone function.
However, traditional methods of preparing soy in Chinese and Japanese cultures make it quite nutritious. They soak, rinse, and ferment the bean for extended periods of time, neutralizing the harmful compounds. Some good news for soy sauce lovers, Kikkoman brand soy sauce is naturally fermented soy sauce and is OK to eat! HOWEVER….Soy products that most Americans are eating are commercial soy products, which are highly processed and full of the bad goitrogens and phytoestrogens. Consumption of these products are known to cause hypo- and hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, and male and female reproductive disorders, especially when consumed during infancy or pregnancy.
Things to stay away from are soy based formula for babies, soy protein powders, and soybean oil. Look on the back of your Helman’s Mayo or your Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, the Oreo Cookies in the pantry, more than likely one of the top ingredients is some type of soy product.
Take a look at your diet, take a look at your health. This is a simple change you can make in your diet TODAY!
