Growing up we were infused with the slogan “Milk makes a body good.” You have to have milk in your diet to have strong bones and teeth, or so we were told.
Is milk really that necessary? How healthy is milk, really?
While there are important nutrients in milk, I personally don’t think you need milk.
You can get your nutrients from other sources and avoid the crazy amounts of sugar milk has. For every 1.5 cups of milk, you are eating the amount of sugar that is found in a candy bar.
Most of our clients are wanting to lose weight and most are milk drinkers. A simple way to cut out sugar and lose weight is to replace milk with unsweetened almond or coconut milk. These are fortified with calcium on top of having all the sugar out.
If you have to have milk I would recommend using it post-workout with a shake. You’ll be replenishing glycogen stores for the next day’s workout and helping transport amino acids and creatine if you use it.
