There is a scripture that says,”If you do not do well, sin is crouching at your door, and its desire is for you, but you must master it.
The purpose here isn’t a deep theological discussion, but to prompt us to examine what is crouching at the door in our lives. Sin kills. It’s destructive.
What things in your life are killing you, distracting you, and what thoughts are consuming you that are holding you back from overcoming obstacles?
The first step is to examine and recognize what these things are. If we aren’t aware, we must become aware, and master that thing.
The next step is to write these things down in a journal or note on our phones. If we can name these things, we are one step closer to combat these obstacles.
The final step is writing down the opposite. This is a habit that must be nurtured and developed. The more you practice this, the better you will get at it. This process never ends. Old thoughts will creep back in, but you’ll be aware and equipped to combat these things.
How does this play out on a day-to-day basis?
“I failed so many times in the past, this time won’t be different. I can just quit if It’s not going well.”
Combat with: “I’ve learned from these failures and this time I have a solid plan in place. I’m not quitting this time. When these thoughts arise I am going to think about my last wins and fall forward.” Actually tell yourself this and write it down.
“I’m too busy right now. I just don’t have time for this.”
Combat with: “You’re not that busy, quit using this old excuse. You spend hours on the tv and phone. I have the time and I’m done using this excuse.” You have to be honest with yourself if you want to succeed.
The alarm goes off…”I’ll go later today I need more sleep..”
Combat with: “Stop being soft, you committed to this. The first 5 minutes of getting up will suck, but after coffee, you’ll be glad you did. Get up. (I use this almost daily)
This practice works. If you focus on the opposite or put on positive thoughts you will master what’s crouching at your door.
