One of the most common questions we get asked is, “How many times a week should I come.” With many different variables in play, it’s somewhat difficult to give a cookie cutter answer. However, the question asked is often times masked as, “What’s the least amount of times I need to come to get results?”
How do we know this? We ask a handful of questions during our consults that paint a picture of prior gym attendance and future gym attendance at our gym is a good indicator many are just wanting to as little as possible to get their desired results.
Not that this has a large amount of importance when it comes to answering the question of how many times one should exercise a week, it does check our motivations. If we don’t check our motivations prior to starting a program, we may be setting ourselves up for failure.
So, how many times should you do CrossFit a week? Generally speaking, 5 days a week with 2 days of rest or active recovery.
Unfortunately, most attend sporadically 2-3 days a week with minimal change, while those that consistently come show measured improvement. Much faster improvement I might add.
Take my nutrition client Tanner for example. He’s been attending our Burn Class for 2 months now. He comes 6 days a week, no joke. He’s lost 20lb and 7% body-fat.
My coach Ernesto trains 6 days a week at 46 years of age. He’s recently lost 8lb and 2.2% body-fat.
You can’t beat consistency over time. You just can’t. It’s that simple.
You wouldn’t expect to be ready for a half marathon running 2x a week would you? How do we think preparing for any sport training 2-3x a week would go?
Who do we think would be more advanced 6 months from TODAY? An athlete practicing 5 days a week or the athlete training 2-3x a week?
Why is our exercise any different? It’s not.
Make the commitment to going to the gym 5 days a week for the next 6 months. I guarantee you’ll look back and not recognize the person in tho pictures 6 months ago.
